
Jazmine was raised and born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Pam, her mother has been a backup singer in the past at Philadelphia International Records. At the age of five, old, her father was offered a position as a curator for The city's Historic Strawberry Mansion in the Strawberry Mansion section, and her family relocated to the landmark historical building. In 2005 she was a graduate of the Philadelphia High School for the Creative and Performing Arts in the class of singer-music major. Sullivan was a contralto in the children's choir and she later joined the adult choir. Sullivan received little exposure to secular music. She recalls when she was just 11 years old when a person asked her to sing solos in church. She wasn't quite ready to go. "Then the time came that McDonald's had a competition for students in big cities and I was offered the chance to sing 'Accept What God Does' on Showtime on the Apollo and the audience were very supportive". The singer performed along with Stevie Wonder at his grandson's birthday party at thirteen. Sullivan began her contract with Jive Records at the age 15. There, she recorded an entire album, but the album wasn't released. Sullivan was eventually dropped from the record label. She had a good working partnership and Missy Elliott. Elliott produced many of her tracks which included "Backstabbers", which was written by Timbaland.
